Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom
of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
 FOI/3061 – Sexual Offences

Thank you for your email received on the 9 May 2026 in which you made a
request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria
 Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of
access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority
(including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request, and we
provide a response for your attention.  We apologise for the delay in
 providing this response to you.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the
Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  We can confirm
that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

We are able to disclose the located information to you as follows with the
 below caveat to be noted:

 ·  The data provided within the attached pdf document has been presented
in such a manner as to avoid the application of exemptions relevant under
the Act (Section 40 – Personal Information), to withhold due to low
numbers, and these will not be broken down further.  Where less than five
victims have been identified and harm or distress may result from any
individuals involved in the incidents being identified, the data has been
provided within the cells as ‘<5’.

 You asked:

Please provide the following information for the calendar year 2025, from
 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.  If full-year 2025 data is not yet
available, please provide the latest available 2025 data and state the
date range covered.  For sexual offences where an individual was charged,
summonsed, postal requisitioned, or otherwise proceeded against, please
 provide:

 1. The total number of cases/offences/proceedings recorded.

 2. A breakdown by nationality as recorded by the force.

 3. A summary breakdown showing:
 a. British national;
 b. foreign national;
 c. unknown / not recorded / refused.

 4. Where held, a breakdown by detailed offence type or Home Office offence
 classification.

 5. A short explanation of the counting basis used, for example whether the
figures count individuals, arrests, offences, custody records, charges,
 proceedings, or another category.

Where any nationality has fewer than 5 results, please suppress the exact
figure and mark it as "<5".  For clarity, I am requesting aggregate
statistical data only. I am not requesting names, addresses, dates of
birth, victim information, case summaries, or free-text crime reports.

Please see the attached pdf document which contains the information in
order to satisfy your above queries.

If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data, we would ask
you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so
as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies or misrepresent
the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a
specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an
indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by
another.  Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor
are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  For this reason,
responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for
 comparative purposes.

The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual
property rights of Northumbria Police.  Your use of the information must
be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988
(as amended) or such other applicable legislation.  In particular, you
must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.

You may be interested to know that Northumbria Police routinely publish
information via the Disclosure Log.  The aim of the Disclosure Log is to
promote openness and transparency by voluntarily placing information into
the public arena, and this contains copies of some of the information that
has been disclosed by Northumbria Police in response to requests made
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  Whilst it is not possible to
publish all responses, we will endeavour to publish those where we feel
that the information disclosed is in the wider public interest.  The
Disclosure Log will be updated once responses have been sent to the
requester.  We have provided the relevant link: [1]Published items |

 How to complain

If you are unhappy with our decision or do not consider that we have
handled your request properly and we are unable to resolve this issue
informally, you are entitled to make a formal complaint to us under our
complaint’s procedure, a copy of which is attached.

If you are still unhappy after we have investigated your complaint and
reported to you the outcome, you may complain directly to the Information
Commissioner’s Office and request that they investigate to ascertain
whether we have dealt with your request in accordance with the Act.

 Yours sincerely
